Writing Workshop: Crime, Plot and Characters

How should you begin your crime manuscript? With a prologue where the reader witnesses the first murder through the victim's eyes? A surreal nightmare from the detective's perspective? Or a scene from the killer's childhood? These are the kinds of choices this workshop explores.

Author Jesper Stein guides participants through a series of writing exercises focused on research, cliffhangers, plot and character development. The exercises are designed to help you get started or break through writer's block. Stein is a trained journalist with over ten years of writing experience, including the award-winning crime series about detective Axel Steen (seven books so far). He has ten years of experience as a crime reporter and has interviewed James Ellroy, Michael Connelly, Ian Rankin and John le Carré.

The workshop is for adults, lasts two hours and takes place at Copenhagen's Main Library, 4th floor, LIVE. Participation is free but requires registration on Billetto.

Bring your own laptop and/or paper and pen - desk space is very limited, so you'll likely need to work in your lap. The library provides writing boards as underlays.
