Writing Workshop: Develop Your Secondary Characters

Secondary characters give stories perspective without taking centre stage - some serve a functional role in relation to the protagonist, while others live their own lives and may take up more space than planned. In this workshop, we explore what makes a secondary character work within limited space, what roles they can play, and we do observation and writing exercises. No special writing skills are required.

The instructor is Daniel Dalgaard (b. 1987), a graduate of the Danish Writers' School (2011). He debuted with the poetry collection "We Are Not Kings" in 2013 and has since published both poetry collections and novels.

The workshop is free and aimed at adults. It takes place in person at Copenhagen's Main Library, 4th floor. Registration is via Billetto. Computers are not provided, so bring your own laptop and/or paper and pen. Desk space is very limited, and you will likely need to balance your computer or paper on your lap - the library provides a writing board as a base. On the 4th floor there is a water station and a coffee machine, but no other refreshments, so bring your own drinks.

From the Central Hall (entrance from Krystalgade), you can reach the 4th floor by lift or stairs to the right, or via the escalators to the 3rd floor and then up one flight of stairs. The workshop area is to the right when you arrive on the floor.
