History Club on Amager: "With Proper Daring"

Historian Søren Nørby discusses the Danish navy's role as a decisive power factor in 16th and 18th-century Northern Europe - and recounts some of the most dramatic episodes from 500 years of naval history, both in home waters and on the world's oceans.

The lecture covers battles against the Swedish fleet, the hunt for privateers in the West Indies, and submarines in serious distress. It draws especially on Nørby's books "Neither Reckless nor Fearful" (2020) and "With Proper Daring" (2021). Nørby is a historian at the Institute for Strategy and War Studies and also serves as the Royal Danish Navy's Historical Consultant.

The event takes place in Bryggekælderen and is open to the public. The History Club on Amager is run jointly by Kvarterhuset, Islands Brygge Library, and Sundby Library.
