About: Werther

Massenet's Werther sets Goethe's classic tale of a young poet's impossible love to music of rare emotional intensity, keeping the opera firmly in the repertoire for over 130 years. The title character's slow descent into despair and Charlotte's inner conflict unfold through one of the most personal and affecting scores in French Romantic opera.
