Wave Breaker with Syddjurs Egnsteater

On August 7, 1937, Jenny Kammersgaard swam across the Kattegat in 29 hours. The strong current meant she actually covered over 90 km - and she had learned to swim at age 15. Four years later, at 19, she crossed the Kattegat again without weather forecasts, wetsuits, or energy gels, at a time when elite sports were banned for women.

Syddjurs Egnsteater's production Wave Breaker tells Jenny's story and shows how she helped shift society's understanding of what people - and especially women - could achieve. Ulla Vejby, known from The Seaside Hotel and The Nursing School, plays Jenny, and the production is directed by Adelaide Bentzon. It runs 45 minutes.

Wave Breaker is performed at Solvang Library on September 1 at 10:00. The production is for children from age 7 and the whole family, and admission is free with registration.
