ADHD - A Different Way of Being in the World — Hovedbiblioteket, Aarhus

The number of adults with an ADD/ADHD diagnosis has increased significantly over the past two decades, and awareness of how the condition affects daily life has grown accordingly. This lecture explores what it means to live with the condition.

The lecture is held in the Main Hall of Hovedbiblioteket by Jens Brejnrod, who since 2008 has developed and taught courses for adults with ADHD, their relatives, and professionals. He is a trained music educator, former lecturer at teacher training college, and has 20 years of experience as an adult special educator in Aarhus Municipality. The first part of the lecture examines how the diagnosis is experienced from within and what mechanisms drive it - illustrated with everyday examples. The second part addresses relationships with relatives, friends, and professionals, and how acceptance, communication, and existential questions can be used as tools for change.

In 2018, Jens Brejnrod published the book "Captain of Your Own Life" - a collaboration tool for adults with ADHD - together with Helle Holmen, who is co-author and co-instructor on the courses. Holmen is a trained teacher with a diploma in psychology and has worked as an adult special educator in Aarhus Municipality since 2009. Since August 2022, she has been headmaster of the internal school at the social-psychiatric treatment institution Holmstrupgård. The book can be downloaded free at adhdkaptajn.dk.
