ARS IN SPIRITU / by Bärbel Kock
Opening reception Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 12:30. Exhibition period: September 2-10, 2026.
German visual artist Bärbel Kock returns for the seventh time to KunstPunkt in the old post office building by Augustenborg Castle. The exhibition "Ars in Spiritu" brings together around 100 works - paintings, graphic prints, collages, installations and objects - accompanied by the artist's own texts in Danish and German.
Kock was born in Zudar on the island of Rügen. In 1954 her family fled East Germany to West Germany; she grew up in Flensburg and later settled in Bremen. Since 1990 she has worked as a professional visual artist, for many years teaching at Freie Kunstschule Bremen and running her own painting school. She has exhibited solo and in groups in both Germany and Scandinavia and is today part of the permanent group exhibition WeserArt in Bremen.
The title "Ars in Spiritu" reflects Kock's view of artistic life as something that requires creativity, inner strength and perseverance - and of art as a language that opens up reflection and imagination:
"Creating an artwork requires an idea, research, materials, craftsmanship and technique. When a work subsequently touches or convinces the viewer, the artist feels affirmed. This is often more important than financial gain."
- Bärbel Kock
On Tuesday, September 8 at 8:30 p.m. there is a guided tour by candlelight with the artist herself. Kock is present throughout the exhibition period. Opening hours: daily 11:00-18:00, closing at 16:00 on September 10.
