Book Reception - Jews in the Provinces. Brush Makers, Bakers, Rabbis, Horse Traders and Soldiers

On June 24, the Danish Jewish Museum published Bent Blüdnikow's book "Jews in the Provinces. Brush Makers, Bakers, Rabbis, Horse Traders and Soldiers." At the same time, the Randers House opened in the 1927 quarter at Den Gamle By in Aarhus, telling the story of Jewish life in Denmark outside Copenhagen. Jews lived in nearly all Danish provincial towns and made up almost half of all Danish Jews until the mid-1800s. The book describes the colorful, fascinating, and compelling Danish history of more than 400 years of Jewish life in the provinces, which the museum has focused on for years.

The book publication and opening of the Randers House at Den Gamle By mark a milestone in the museum's work to share the story of Jewish provincial life. We celebrate this with an open reception at the Danish Jewish Museum. We offer wine and snacks, with a brief presentation of the book and a conversation between author Bent Blüdnikow and museum director Janus Møller Jensen, plus musical entertainment by Ayala Zimbler Hertz, who sings both Jewish and Danish songs.
