City Walk: The Wilder, Louder and Respectable Citizens of Farvergade. Life in a Colorful Street Around 1900 — Mødested: Foran Københavns Rådhus, Copenhagen
Description was written before the event

Join a walk back to when Farvergade was wild and notorious. In the late 1800s, Copenhagen was plagued by poverty, crime, and prostitution. In Farvergade, a group of prostitutes disturbed the street's more respectable residents, who complained to the City Council itself. On this city walk, we meet the people and animals that once inhabited one of Copenhagen's liveliest streets. Farvergade housed both notorious taverns and well-visited brothels. But at the end of the street, the city's new town hall was under construction, and the neighborhood's bourgeoisie believed it was time for the street to change its clientele. Farvergade was cleaned up and the street gained its current more polished appearance. Today's guide to Copenhagen in the decades around 1900 is archivist Peter Wessel Hansen.
