Workshop in Japanese embroidery and mending at Edderbrodermig 🧵🌸🎌 Saturday, August 29, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

In Japanese sashiko embroidery and boro mending, function meets poetry. Here the imperfect, the worn, the lived-in is celebrated. Over this 3-hour workshop, you'll get a taste of both techniques. Sashiko means "small stitches", and each stitch becomes a small witness to time, care, and creative freedom. Boro mending means "patch upon patch" - through layered patches and sashiko stitches you create a unique expression where visible repair becomes a work of art in itself. 🧵✨

Both techniques have roots in Japanese peasant culture and continue today in a modern aesthetic that invites presence, slowness, and sustainability. ♻️🌿 The workshop is taught by Ida Christoffersen, who through her upcycling universe YUME.ITO designs and teaches Japanese textile traditions. The workshop is a collaboration between Edderbrodermig, the North Zealand hub for embroidery in Helsingør, and YUME.ITO - born from our shared fascination with Japanese textile craftsmanship.

During the workshop you will:
• Learn the philosophy and history behind sashiko and boro
• Master the simple running stitch that builds patterns, rhythm, and calm 🪡
• Work with water-soluble stick & stitch markers with pre-printed patterns, or learn to draw your own
• Get inspiration for how to mend, reinforce, or transform worn or dull clothing in personal and poetic ways ✨🌸

Everyone over 10 is welcome, and no prior experience is needed beyond the desire to pick up needle and thread. YUME.ITO provides sashiko needles and thread, sample fabric, and textile scraps for mending. 🧵🪡💮 Japanese tea and miso and milk chocolate cookies will be served.
