Learn Dog-Knitting - Wrist Warmers — Hedestrik, Copenhagen

In this workshop, you'll learn dogma knitting - a technique where you knit directly with raw, unprocessed wool without carding or spinning first. The wool comes from West Jutland spælsau sheep, whose long-fibred hair makes it possible to go from raw wool to finished product in just a few steps.

Included in the price is raw wool for a pair of wrist warmers following a simple pattern. If you'd prefer to make a West Jutland herder's vest - a wrap-around vest with a hood - you can buy extra wool for 195 kr. You don't need to be an experienced knitter, but you should be able to knit plain and purl stitches and cast on. Bring knitting needles in sizes 3-6.

Along the way, you'll also learn about wool from a climate perspective, plant dyeing, and wet felting. Hedestrik works with Nordic wool that would otherwise remain unused as a byproduct at sheep farms, and promotes dogma and free knitting as an alternative to the commercial yarn world.
