Nanna Holm at Odense Main Library with 'Red Gate'

Nanna Holm's debut novel 'Red Gate' is set in a leisure collective on Langeland in the late Cold War. While the adults party and dream of a freer world, the children Aske, Gry and Mona are left to long, restless days in the borderland between safety and chaos. Decades later, the three still struggle to find their footing in adult life - and when memories from that fateful summer resurface, they are forced to confront the marks childhood has left.

Literature facilitator Cathrine Hedegaard talks with Nanna Holm about the book. They explore how growing up in the shadow of adults' grand ideals shapes identity, and set the boundless freedom ideals of the 1970s and 80s against today's focus on children's wellbeing. Nanna Holm also shares her personal journey from steady employment to debut novelist.
