Workshop - The Faroese Shawl

The Faroese shawl is characterized by being "knitted in shape" - constructed to drape elegantly over the shoulders and lie neatly across the chest. It is knitted in straight ridges with a single eyelet at the bottom, and traditionally a lining was also made, without an eyelet and often in a lighter color.

On this workshop, participants knit a miniature shawl, so all elements of the original shawl are covered. Various eyelet techniques are also explored.

Bring: thin wool yarn (500-700 m per 100 g), circular needles (80-100 cm) size approx. 5-5½, and a pen or pencil.

The instructor is Ann Højgaard Slot, born and raised in the Faroe Islands and has been knitting since she was five years old. She holds a cand.design from the Design School in Kolding and works as a textile designer, instructor, and lecturer. She also teaches children in the school subject of crafts and design, and runs the business Heimkær, where she creates knitted interior and accessories as well as knitting patterns inspired by Faroese nature and knitting culture.

Duration: 3 hours. Maximum 20 places.
