Blå Hånd is a workshop about plant pigments and human communities, first held for Blød Modstand during Soil, sickness and society at Kunsthal Rønnebæksholm in September 2021.

Sara Gade introduces the dyeing of silk with fresh leaves from Japanese indigo and demonstrates simple techniques for working the plant's pigments into the fabric - including how the indigo plant grows, is harvested, and used. You will take home a silk scarf dyed in indigo's blue tones. Sara also shares her work creating Farvehaven at Kunsthal Rønnebæksholm and the garden's volunteer community - a garden that grew from questions such as: Where do colours come from? Can colours create biodiversity? And are colours also economy?

Sara Gade is a trained textile designer and printer who has worked with textiles and visual art for many years. In 2018 she began plant dyeing, which led her into gardening. Since then she has created several gardens: Farvehaven at Rønnebæksholm, a Fiberhave with flax for spinning, a garden for endangered species, a Medicinhave for horses, and a pesticide-free Kornhave with heritage wheat.

The workshop is conducted in Danish and will be outdoors if weather permits. Søndagsskolen is an informal school at Alle Tiders on Vesterbro, where curious people gather around a long table each month to learn about the world around us - through hands and senses. Søndagsskolen is created in collaboration with visual artist Mia Carl.
