Thursday Mic: Chris Madsen's Colourful Life

Chris Madsen (1851-1944) was a remarkable Danish-American: born poor in rural Denmark, he became one of the most famous western heroes in the USA - among other roles as a US Marshal who captured the notorious Dalton and Doolin gangs. His 67 years in the USA (1876-1944) are well documented, but his first 25 years in Denmark (1851-75) remain far more obscure.

Today's lecturer has conducted extensive research into the sources and focuses on Madsen's life before emigration. He was born in the village of Ørsted on Funen and worked as a very young man as a drainage engineer in Odense. The lecture is based on Frans Ørsted Andersen's investigations, which also formed the basis for the book "A Life on the Edge: A Biographical Account of Chris Madsen's Incredible Life" (2018).
