André - Voices of the Street
Vesterbro, Vesterbro Torv, Copenhagen · 209 kr. · ≈ 28 €
André grew up bullied and never feeling like he belonged. As a young man, he found community in Christiania - but it came at a cost. He ended up in a harsh environment, started dealing hash and amphetamines, and when he met a man who introduced him to heroin, an addiction began that would last the next 20 years.
On this walking tour through Vesterbro, André talks about the psychology of addiction: how you learn to justify your actions, how boundaries slowly shift, and why it can be so hard to leave a world even when you risk losing the people you love most. He has been through treatment around 20 times and has worked as a treatment counselor himself, so he knows the Danish treatment system from both sides - what works and what doesn't.
Eight years ago, he started medical treatment. It meant no more crime or the constant stress of finding drugs - and it made all the difference.
