Workshop: Jacquard and Ladderback — BRØK, Copenhagen

This workshop introduces two knitting techniques: jacquard (also called fair isle) and ladderback. Jacquard is colourwork knitting with multiple colours in the same round, where the unused colour runs along the back of the work as so-called floats. To avoid overly long floats - which can catch when pulling a finished sweater over your head - you can secure them or work with a ladder of stitches (ladderback) on the back.

The instruction covers the fundamentals of jacquard knitting, setting up and finishing ladderback, and knitting both techniques at the same time. During the workshop, participants will knit a section of the pattern from Diamonds And Pearls Sweater Colour together. You will receive a workbook, and the only requirement is that you can knit knit and purl - experience with two-colour knitting or textured knitting is not necessary.

Bring circular needles (4-6 mm) and yarn in two colours with good contrast, preferably in a weight suitable for needles 4-5, such as Peru.

The workshop is run by Popknit, which is Katja Dyrberg's knitting universe. Katja has been knitting for over 40 years, holds a bachelor's degree in handicrafts, and has 15 years of experience as a primary school teacher. She designs all Popknit patterns herself and emphasises that they are accessible for all levels. Follow the process on Instagram: @p_o_p_k_n_i_t.
