Site-Specific Color Design in Architecture and Space

This course offers insight into and hands-on experience with how to apply color to architecture while respecting the site's history, surroundings, people, and future functions. The approach is analytical and thoroughly grounded, so colors add meaning and narrative to the place - rather than simply reflecting current trends.

The course opens with color exercises, presentations on color systems, and an introduction to BJØRCH & RASK's method. Participants then work in a workshop where the method is tested on a concrete case - a process that provides hands-on experience in balancing a site's existing and historical aspects with new elements and functions. The day concludes with shared reflection on insights and learning. Teaching alternates between presentations, small-group work, and plenary discussions. Snacks and refreshments are served.

The instructors are the design duo BJØRCH & RASK, consisting of Fie Bjørch (b. 1989) and Benjamin Rask (b. 1993). Both are designers with specialized expertise in color design, materials, and textiles in architecture, and they share a background in textile design. The duo's work always starts from the concrete architecture and builds on analyses of light conditions, proportions, materials, spatial sequences, and functions. Their work encompasses color, material, and surface strategies; color design for new construction and renovation; design of site-specific furniture and textiles; and consultation on organization and wayfinding.
