Art as Homecoming - A Personal Lecture with Chadi Abdul Karim

How can art help us find home and create meaning in a life marked by upheaval and uncertainty? This is the central question Chadi Abdul Karim explores in this intimate lecture, inviting the audience into his reflections. To what extent does art emerge as a natural response to transformations beyond our control? And does it offer lasting resolution, or does it sustain a rage that may be unconstructive?

Chadi Abdul Karim was born to Palestinian parents and came to Denmark at age 9. At 12, his family moved to Gellerupparken. As a teenager, he showed a gift for expression through words, and at 15 he was recruited to the debate group Black Top Team as a debater, speaker, and rapper. There he met Liam O'Connor (L.O.C.), and together they formed Alzheimer Klinikken, the first rap group from Aarhus West. At 17, Chadi began making short films and music videos, and on the theatre stage he learned to combine rap, acting, and storytelling - a combination that has earned him a Reumert Prize. He brings more than 25 years of experience in Danish music and theatre.

Throughout his career, he has used music, film, and theatre to articulate difficult subjects: depression, suicidal thoughts, racism, diagnosis, family, and friendship. In this lecture, he appears without scenography, effects, acting, or rap - only his own voice and his own story.
