Julie - Voices of the Street

Julie shares her own story - about how a life with work, family and friends suddenly changed course when she was introduced to heroin at a party in her mid-twenties. She didn't know what it was, but became hooked immediately.

For the next 7 years, she lived a double life: a functioning facade on the outside, while escalating drug use demanded more and more resources - money, energy, and eventually her home. She and her boyfriend ended up homeless in shelters, and their days were spent finding money for drugs. At one point, she is nearly kidnapped by people claiming she owes them money - and that incident sets a change in motion.

On a tour around Vesterbro, you hear about the journey from drug abuse back to family and into treatment, which she is still part of. Julie carries a heavy story, but as she says herself: it hasn't taken her sense of humor.
