Steve Poltz Solo (US)

Steve Poltz is a Canadian-American singer-songwriter and guitarist, founder of the indie-rock band the Rugburns and co-creator of the 1996 single "You Were Meant for Me" with Jewel, which reached number 2 on the US charts. He tours constantly and has fans around the world. His shows are characterized by personal stories - funny and engaging at the same time.

JoyRide is his 14th solo album (Rugburns records, live recordings and bootlegs not included). It came about when producer Dex Green called and suggested that the two neighbors in East Nashville make music together - without a plan and without a safety net. The result is ten songs recorded in real time.

The album opens with "If It Bleeds It Leads" and continues with "Petrichor" (inspired by the smell of rain), "At It Again" (co-written with Jim Lauderdale, featuring Bryan Owings and Chris Donohue from Emmylou Harris' rhythm section) and the title track "JoyRide". Side two features "Love a Little Bigger" (co-written with Vince Herman from Leftover Salmon), "New Tattoo", "Brand New Liver" and closing track "Hairlift".

Steve Poltz himself describes the process like this: "It's chaos, caffeine, and accidental poetry - art colliding with microphones and commerce in a glorious mess."
