Steve Poltz (born February 19, 1960, in Halifax, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian-American singer-songwriter who grew up in San Diego and now lives in Nashville. He co-founded the cowpunk band the Rugburns and is best known internationally for co-writing Jewel's 1996 hit "You Were Meant for Me," which reached number 2 in the US. Across 14 solo albums - most recently JoyRide (2026) - and a reputation for wildly spontaneous live shows, he has built a devoted cult following on both sides of the Atlantic.
