Scientific Lecture: Quantum Computers by Physicist Klaus Mølmer — KU.BE, Frederiksberg

Physicist Klaus Mølmer introduces the world of quantum physics and the so-called "quantum revolution" - a wave of new technologies built on the most paradoxical properties of quantum phenomena.

The world of atoms and molecules differs fundamentally from our everyday experience: atomic particles can apparently exist in multiple places at once, and measurements on them always yield random results. Quantum physics shook many physicists when it emerged in the early 20th century, but its predictions have since been confirmed with great precision in both physics and chemistry.

A large part of the lecture focuses on quantum computers, which use atomic quantum states to perform calculations on many numbers simultaneously. Since the 1990s, substantial investments - both in Denmark and internationally - have been made in the race to develop them. Klaus Mølmer explains how far construction has progressed and what quantum computers will be able to do once they are fully functional.
