Depression in a New Light - What Does the Immune System Do to the Mind?

What if the immune system plays a far greater role in depression than we have previously believed? New research suggests that in some cases the condition may be linked to an overactive immune response and inflammatory states in the body.

Anna Mathia Klawonn, brain researcher and group leader at DANDRITE at Aarhus University, works at the intersection of neuroscience and immunology. She investigates how immune cells and inflammatory molecules can trigger depressive symptoms, and how new treatment approaches can detect and dampen this effect.
