Using the Planetarium's planetarium system, the lecture takes you close to some of the largest and most significant telescopes on Earth and in space - from observatories in the Atacama Desert in Chile and atop Mauna Kea in Hawaii to the James Webb Space Telescope. Along the way, we explore how telescopes have transformed astronomy: from Tycho Brahe's supernova observation and Galileo Galilei's first glimpse of Saturn in 1609 to the Hubble Space Telescope's images of distant galaxies. Modern telescopes map invisible dark matter, search for planets around distant stars, and can even form images of black holes by linking telescopes scattered across the Earth.

After the lecture, the film The Wonders of Light in Space is shown, which explores how today's observation technology continues to expand our understanding of the cosmos.
