Richard Andersson NOR feat. Anne Efternøler & Simon Linnert Quartet — Christiania Jazz Club, Copenhagen

Hobby Horse presents a double concert at Christiania Jazz Club.

Richard Andersson NOR feat. Anne Efternøler

The award-winning bassist Richard Andersson's Danish/Icelandic trio NOR has performed over 100 concerts across Scandinavia in the past decade, with an expression marked by Nordic melancholy and carefully calibrated volcanic temperament. The trio consists of Andersson alongside two of Iceland's most prominent jazz figures: saxophonist Oskar Gudjonsson (ADHD, Jakob Bro, Mezzoforte and others) and drummer Matthias Hemstock.

Based on compositions by Andersson and Gudjonsson, the trio released the album Nor in 2017, followed by The Six of Us (2018) - both warmly received by Danish and international media. Most recently came the Danish Music Awards Jazz-nominated album Undo (2023), featuring guitarist Hilmar Jensson. For this concert, NOR presents a collaboration with trumpeter Anne Efternøler, of whom Salt Peanuts (2023) wrote: "...a trumpeter with an expression that goes straight to the heart."

Richard Andersson (double bass) · Anne Efternøler (trumpet) · Oskar Gudjonsson (saxophone) · Matthias Hemstock (drums)

The concert is part of Spil Dansk and supported by Koda Kultur.

Simon Linnert Quartet

Pianist Simon Linnert began his career on the Copenhagen scene as a teenager, later studied in New York with Jason Moran and Sophia Rosoff, and after a decade's break returned to music with the album Of Visions (2020). His latest release is the trio album Sayeh (2025), recorded in Copenhagen the day after a pop-up concert at Christiania Jazz Club.

For Spil Dansk, Linnert presents a new quartet with new material written specifically for the occasion. With him are saxophonist Ned Ferm - an American multi-instrumentalist based in Copenhagen, trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with a soloist degree and featured on over 100 international releases - and drummer and composer Jeppe Gram, whose latest album is The Doldrums (Storyville, 2021), and bassist Richard Andersson, who performs the same evening.
