Emil Balsgaard is a Danish pianist and organist, best known as the keyboard anchor of Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado, one of Denmark's leading blues-rock acts. He and Risager have shared a stage for more than 30 years, and their duo project strips the music back to voice and piano, drawing on New Orleans blues, boogie-woogie and gospel.
The duo Risager & Balsgaard released the surprise album 'Past Time Shadow' on August 28, 2026 - their fourth duo album and the first since 2021.
The release tour for 'Past Time Shadow' is underway in Denmark and Sweden, and the album has already received a five-star review.
'Past Time Shadow' is produced by Søren Bøjgaard and released on vinyl and all streaming platforms.
Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado - with Balsgaard on piano and organ - released the album 'House of Sticks' in January 2025 and subsequently toured in Europe.
The Black Tornado recorded a live concert at Hotel Cecil in Copenhagen in November 2025, which was subsequently released.
