About

Bjarke Ingels is a Danish architect and founder of BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), established in Copenhagen in 2005 after he worked at Rem Koolhaas' OMA in Rotterdam. The firm now operates from offices in Copenhagen, New York, London and Barcelona, with a staff of over 700, and takes on projects ranging from housing and cultural buildings to urban masterplans and climate infrastructure. Ingels is best known for CopenHill, 8 House and Superkilen in Copenhagen, and his concept of 'hedonistic sustainability' - the idea that ecological responsibility and human enjoyment reinforce rather than oppose each other - runs through all of BIG's work. He has been named one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People and has received the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale and France's Grande Médaille d'Or, among other honours.
