Cat Power is the stage name of American singer-songwriter Chan Marshall, born in Atlanta in 1972. She emerged in the mid-1990s with a raw, confessional style and broke through with albums such as 'Moon Pix' (1998) and 'The Greatest' (2006) - the latter recorded in Memphis with members of the Hi Rhythm section and widely regarded as one of the defining records of the 2000s. Her music moves between indie rock, folk and soul, and she remains one of the most respected voices in the American indie underground.
