The Doric String Quartet is a British ensemble founded in 1998 that has grown into one of the leading chamber groups of its generation. Recording exclusively for Chandos since 2010 - with a discography of more than 20 releases ranging from Purcell to John Adams - the quartet has won prizes including first place at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. They are regulars at major venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, and since 2024 the lineup is Maia Cabeza and Ying Xue (violins), Emma Wernig (viola) and John Myerscough (cello).
In the 2025-26 season, the quartet makes its debut at Shanghai Symphony Hall and presents the complete Britten cycle at De Bijloke in Ghent for the 50th anniversary of the composer's death.
Beethoven: String Quartets, Vol. 2 was released on Chandos in August 2024 as the second part of the quartet's ongoing Beethoven cycle.
The quartet completed its USA tour in spring 2025 with a sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall in New York.
In 2024, the quartet gained two new members: violinist Maia Cabeza replaced founder Alex Redington, and violist Emma Wernig took the place of Hélène Clément.
The first volume of the Beethoven cycle was released in 2023 and was praised by The Times as 'a joy'.
