DR SymfoniOrkestret is Denmark's national symphony orchestra, founded on 28 October 1925 as part of the newly established Danish State Radio and now based at DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen. The orchestra's 106 musicians are led by Italian chief conductor Fabio Luisi, who has held the post since 2017. It records for Deutsche Grammophon and has built a remarkable global following on YouTube, where DR Koncerthuset's channel has passed one million subscribers.
DR SymfoniOrkestret presented its 101st season with opening on September 3, 2026 and guests such as Joyce DiDonato, Igor Levit and Håkan Hardenberger.
In February 2026, a humanoid robot performed as conductor during the orchestra's 'Cyberphoria' concerts with film music from sci-fi films.
As a prelude to the anniversary season, DR SymfoniOrkestret performed Beethoven's 9th Symphony at BBC Proms in London in front of over 5,000 listeners in Royal Albert Hall.
The anniversary year 2025 was a record year: over 100,000 Danes heard the orchestra live, and approximately 20,000 followed the anniversary tour to European concert halls.
In January 2025, DR SymfoniOrkestret conducted a two-week anniversary tour with stops at, among others, Berliner Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Müpa in Budapest.
