Jeppe på bjerget is Ludvig Holberg's 1722 comedy about a drunken peasant who wakes up in a baron's bed and briefly believes himself transformed into a nobleman - a sharp satire on power and social hierarchy. The play premiered at the Lille Grønnegade Theatre and has since become the most frequently staged of all Holberg's comedies, entering the Danish Culture Canon in 2006. Christian Lollike's 2025 production at Aarhus Teater, starring Thure Lindhardt, reimagines Jeppe as a PTSD-stricken war veteran and won the Reumert Prize for Best Production of 2025. After selling out its first run, the production returns to Store Scene in late summer 2026.
The revival of Jeppe på bjerget opened at Aarhus Teater's Store Scene on August 20, 2026 and runs until September 24, 2026.
The production is part of Aarhus Festuge 2026 and also plays on Kultunaut-listed dates until October 3, 2026.
Jeppe på bjerget won the Reumert Prize for Production of the Year 2025 - selected by Aarhus Teater and Holstebro Dansekompagni in collaboration.
The world premiere at Aarhus Teater in February 2025 received top-class critical acclaim and played to sold-out houses.
Jeppe på bjerget was included in the Danish cultural canon for performing arts in 2006.
