Johann Hari is a British journalist and author who grew up in London and studied social and political science at King's College, Cambridge. He has written four New York Times bestsellers - Chasing the Scream (2015), Lost Connections (2018), Stolen Focus (2022) and Magic Pill (2024) - each investigating a major social crisis through deep reportage. His two TED Talks have been viewed more than 93 million times combined, and his books have been translated into 40 languages.
Hari participated in an online 5x15 event in May 2026, where he discussed weight loss medication and other current topics.
Hari gave a lecture at the Ready25 conference in Australia about the attention crisis and its consequences for working life.
Hari was a keynote speaker at GXC Online: Mental Health Without Borders 2025.
Magic Pill - Hari's book about weight loss drugs such as Ozempic - was released on May 7, 2024 by Crown/Penguin Random House.
