Copenhagen Cantata Choir performs all six cantatas of Bach's Christmas Oratorio in a single concert - a rare chance to experience the complete work.
Københavns Kantatekor is a classical oratorio choir from Copenhagen, founded in 1984. The roughly 55-60 amateur singers specialise in large-scale choral works with orchestra, among them Handel's Messiah, Bach's passions and Christmas Oratorio, and Verdi's Requiem. Conductor Torben H.S. Svendsen has led the choir since 1998, and every January the ensemble presents an opera gala as its traditional New Year concert.
The choir performed Bach's Christmas Oratorio at several concerts in December 2025, including at Holmens Church, Store Magleby Church and Bagsværd Church, where the concert was sold out.
In January 2026, the choir held its traditional New Year's concert for the 22nd time in the form of an opera gala.
The soloists at the 2026 New Year's concerts were soprano Signe Sneh Durholm and baritone Jens Søndergaard.
The choir has announced performances of Schubert's Mass in E-flat major in March 2026 at Store Magleby Church and St. John's Church in Copenhagen.
