About

Laura Chavez is a California-born blues guitarist, songwriter and producer who has spent over two decades as one of the blues world's most in-demand session and touring players, largely through her long association with Ruf Records. In 2023 she became the first - and so far only - woman to win the Blues Music Award for Instrumentalist - Guitar, having been nominated in 2019 and 2021. Guitar Player Magazine listed her among its 50 Sensational Female Guitarists, and she has contributed to around 20 Ruf Records albums alongside artists including Candye Kane, Nikki Hill and Vanessa Collier. Her debut solo album My Voice, released in January 2026, is fully instrumental, drawing on Texas and Chicago blues, soul and Mexican folk traditions.
