The book is a social-realist portrait of a crumbling Danish welfare state, following a woman who takes refuge near a riding school for vulnerable children in Brøndby Strand. Duvå weaves together everyday realism and something quietly ghostly in her depiction of a system that means well but ends up suffocating its citizens.
