Lute
Electronic band Lute performs live at Rust in Copenhagen.
Lute, born Luther Nicholson in Charlotte, North Carolina, is an American rapper signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records. He is best known for autobiographical, introspective lyrics rooted in themes of struggle, fatherhood and personal growth, set against soul-tinged boom-bap production. His breakthrough came with the platinum-certified single "Under the Sun" (2019, with J. Cole and DaBaby), which also earned him a Grammy nomination. His second album, Gold Mouf (2021), confirmed his standing as one of Dreamville's most distinctive voices.
Lute performed at the fifth and final edition of Dreamville Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina, on April 5, 2025.
In an interview in connection with Dreamville Festival 2025, Lute said that he is working on new music, but does not have a fixed release date.
Lute released the single "Lets Keep It Real" in collaboration with WestCoast Gillie in 2024.
Lute was featured on the Dreamville single "Ma Boy" with JID in 2023.
Lute held a homecoming concert in Charlotte with a live band, where he performed songs from his entire career for the first time in this format.
