Mekdes (Mekdes Vinholt Pedersen, born 1998 in Ethiopia, raised in Kolding) is a Danish-Ethiopian singer, songwriter, and producer who writes and produces all his own music. He won the P3 Guld Talent award in 2021 and released his debut album "Greedy" in January 2022. His collaboration with URO on the single "Føles Godt" (2023) earned triple-platinum certification from IFPI Danmark, and in January 2026 he released his second album, "The Boy I Am", his first since coming out as a transgender man.
Mekdes released his second studio album "The Boy I Am" on January 9, 2026 - his first release after coming out as a transgender man in November 2025.
In November 2025, Mekdes announced in an Instagram video that he is transgender.
Mekdes performed album concerts at Train in Aarhus (February 20) and VEGA in Copenhagen (February 25) as part of the tour for "The Boy I Am".
Mekdes ended 2024 with a sold-out concert at Store Vega in Copenhagen in October.
Mekdes participated in season 13 of the TV 2 program Toppen af Poppen, which premiered in February 2024.
Mekdes performs an intimate acoustic concert featuring his latest album 'The Boy I Am', an emotionally focused evening with the artist and his musical collaborators.
