Michael Eigtved is an associate professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Copenhagen and Denmark's leading academic authority on musical theatre. His books include "Det populære musikteater" and "Musicalguide", and he contributes regularly to peer-reviewed journals and national reference works. Alongside his scholarly work he performs as a pianist.
Eigtveds new book "Musical" in the publication series Iscenesat (Selskabet for Dansk Teaterhistorie, 2026) was reviewed in Peripeti as a much-needed contribution from Danish theatre research's undisputed musical specialist.
Eigtved published the peer-reviewed article "Theatrical innovation in contemporary circus" in the journal Peripeti.
Eigtved is co-author and co-editor of two anthologies under publication at Samfundslitteratur, including "Cultural-historical method".
Eigtved gave a presentation on the history of the musical at the first edition of Musicalens Folkemøde in Fredericia.
