Opposites Meet - The Path to Inclusion and Coexistence. Dialogue Lecture Between Bishop and Imam
Bishop Marianne Christiansen and Imam Naveed Baig explore inclusion, faith, and coexistence across religious divides in a dialogue lecture open to all.
Naveed Baig (born 1975 in Glostrup) is a Danish imam of Pakistani heritage and Denmark's first hospital imam. He served as imam and coordinator of the Ethnic Resource Team at Rigshospitalet from 2005 to 2020, and in January 2025 he defended his PhD at the University of Oslo on the spiritual experiences of Muslim patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. A prolific public speaker and commentator, he is one of the most prominent voices in Danish debates on Islam, interfaith dialogue and Muslim identity.
Naveed Baig defended his PhD thesis 'The cure is in the pain' at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Oslo on January 16, 2025.
After the PhD defense, Baig emphasized that the spiritual needs of Muslim patients cannot be fully met by hospital chaplains, and that there is a need for imams with specific professional competence in Nordic healthcare.
Baig contributed an opinion piece on Altinget about empathy in Danish politics and the need to include minorities in the democratic community.
Naveed Baig was included in Kraks Blå Bog in 2023.
