Octave One is a Detroit techno project built around brothers Lenny and Lawrence Burden, with occasional contributions from siblings Lynell, Lorne, and Lance. They debuted in 1989 on Derrick May's Transmat label and are counted among Detroit's second wave of techno pioneers. Their 2000 single "Blackwater", featuring Ann Saunderson's vocals over a live string arrangement, sold more than a million copies and remains a fixture in techno sets worldwide. Live, they perform with a large analog rig they call "The Mothership", and release music on their own 430 West Records.
