Rasmus Sørensen is a Danish jazz pianist and composer who grew up in Sæby, northern Jutland. He moved to New York in 2018 on a full scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music, and within five years had become one of the most in-demand pianists on the city's jazz scene, performing at Smalls Jazz Club, The Jazz Gallery and other leading venues. Returning to Copenhagen in 2023, he has since released three albums on April Records, won the Danish Music Award Jazz as Musician of the Year in 2024, and received the Ben Webster Prize in 2025.
Rasmus Sørensen released the debut album with the supergroup The Action 4s - a quartet with Mathias Heise, Anton Eger and Conor Chaplin - on April Records on May 9, 2025.
Ben Webster's Foundation awarded Rasmus Sørensen the Ben Webster Prize of 25,000 kr. at an award ceremony at Bartof Station on Frederiksberg on April 22, 2025.
The third album At The Right Time was released on November 15, 2024 on April Records with bassist Jon Henriksson and drummer Francesco Ciniglio and received praise in, among others, Politiken, Weekendavisen and All About Jazz.
The album Balancing Act - recorded in New York with Blue Note drummer Kendrick Scott and bassist Alex Claffy - was released on March 15, 2024 on April Records and resulted in Sørensen winning the Danish Music Award Jazz as Musician of the Year.
After five years in New York, Rasmus Sørensen returned to Copenhagen in 2023 and quickly established himself on the Danish jazz scene with his trio and a series of collaborations.
