Secret Hotel: The Game of H2O
Secret Hotel brings its participatory theatre indoors with a production about water, where the audience becomes co-performers in an oval room with no spectator seating.
Secret Hotel is a Danish performance theatre founded in 1999 by director and dramaturg Christine Fentz and dramaturg Synne Behrndt. Based at Godsbanen in Aarhus and at Earthwise Residency in Mols Bjerge, the company works at the intersection of participatory performing arts, sustainability and landscape. Productions draw audiences in as active co-creators rather than spectators, exploring the relationship between humans, nature and the more-than-human world. Since 2018, Secret Hotel has organised the interdisciplinary Earthbound Symposium, bringing together artists, researchers and activists around sensory and ecological knowledge.
Secret Hotel held Earthbound Symposium 2025 over three days on 19-21 August at Himmelbjerggården near Ry and Moesgaard Campus in Aarhus with the theme 'Earth and Water'.
A participant from Earthbound 2025 mentioned the symposium in an essay on Resilience.org and thanked Christine Fentz and Secret Hotel for the invitation.
The performance 'The Game of H₂O' - a participatory performance about water - played at Kolding Egnsteater on 25-28 April 2025.
The walking performance 'Under Forest', co-produced with Bora Bora in Aarhus, received positive reviews in Iscene 2024.
Secret Hotel carried out a 14-week artist-in-residence project 'Insect Invasion' for schools and cultural institutions, supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
