
Wine & Science: From the Quantum World to Exoplanets
Two leading Danish physicists explore quantum mechanics and the search for life on exoplanets, with wine during the break.
Uffe Gråe Jørgensen is an associate professor of astrophysics and planetary science at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, where he heads the Exoplanets & Astrobiology research group and the Centre for Extraterrestrial Life (CELS), a cross-disciplinary collaboration spanning biology and chemistry. His work focuses on discovering and characterising exoplanets, modelling their atmospheres, and searching for biosignatures that could indicate life beyond Earth. He is a prominent science communicator, regularly appearing in Danish media and podcasts on the search for extraterrestrial life.
Jørgensen is co-author on a new article in Astronomy & Astrophysics (June 2025) as part of the MiNDSTEp collaboration on microlensing and exoplanets.
Jørgensen commented to TV 2 on the strongest evidence so far for life beyond Earth, when a Cambridge team published findings of the chemicals DMS and DMDS in the atmosphere of the exoplanet K2-18b via the James Webb telescope.
Jørgensen is co-author on an article in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (April 2025) on characterization of exoplanet systems.
Jørgensen participated in a YouTube video about astrobiology and life in space, produced in October 2024.
Jørgensen was a guest on the podcast 'Videnskab fra vilde hjerner' (January 2024) and explained how advanced computer models are used to search for signs of life in exoplanet atmospheres.
