Sønderjyllands Kunstskole was founded in 1979 under the name Sønderjyllands Kunstakademi, with its first courses running in spring 1980. Since 2017 the school has been based on the upper floors of Multikulturhuset on Sønderborg harbour. Teaching covers classical disciplines - drawing, painting, watercolour, sculpture, graphic art and art history - alongside newer fields such as photography, video and computer art. In addition to daytime classes, the school runs weekly, evening and weekend courses, debate lectures and a children's art school.
