Syddansk Musikkonservatorium

Esbjerg

About the venue

Syddansk Musikkonservatorium (SDMK) in Esbjerg occupies a former power plant from 1907, converted into a music academy in 1998. Originally founded in 1946 as Vestjysk Musikkonservatorium, it merged with its Odense counterpart in 2010. The old turbine hall now serves as a concert hall seating around 198 and is regarded as one of Europe's finest venues for chamber music, thanks to its acoustics. Students train in classical, rhythmic, folk, electronic, church music and film scoring, and the conservatory regularly opens its doors to the public for concerts and graduation recitals.
