Beneath the ocean's surface, seaweed forms underwater forests that play a crucial role in marine life and the planet's climate. This lecture explores seaweed's place in ocean ecosystems and what new research reveals about its potential for health, food, climate, and the environment.

The lecture is held by Annette Bruhn, senior researcher in marine ecology at the Department of Ecoscience, Aarhus University. It is free but requires advance registration. Doors open at 18:30.

About the venue: Kildevæld Kulturcenter

Kildevæld Kulturcenter is a community cultural centre in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen, built as an extension to the listed Kildevældsskolen and set between the school and a neighbouring park. The building holds a library, a theatre and concert hall, creative workshops, a café, and a digital workshop equipped with laser cutters and 3D printers. Its programme targets residents of all ages in the Skt. Kjelds Kvarter neighbourhood, with a focus on the meeting point between urban nature and culture.

About: Annette Bruhn

Senior researcher Annette Bruhn from Aarhus University has spent 18 years mapping how seaweed can be cultivated and put to use - from sugar kelp in Danish waters to sea lettuce in fjord areas. Her work links marine environments, climate and food production, carried out in close collaboration with authorities and industry.
