Kaare Johannessen: History and Stories - Facts and Fiction

In this lecture, historian Kaare Johannessen explores the relationship between historical facts and how fiction portrays well-known historical figures - and how novels, films and TV series shape our understanding of both Danish and world history. The programme features Christian II, Svend Poulsen Gønge, the Red Baron and the gangster couple Bonnie & Clyde, all of whom have also found their way into fiction. The evening is designed to be both thought-provoking and entertaining.

Kaare Johannessen holds a degree in history and medieval archaeology from Odense and Aarhus Universities, has over 20 years of experience in museums and cultural heritage, and has worked as an inspector at the Medieval Centre in Nykøbing Falster. Since 2014 he has worked as an independent historian.
