Michael Stoltze: Danish Butterflies - Nature's Poetry on Wings

Michael Stoltze holds a Ph.D. in Danish butterflies and has studied them since childhood in North Bornholm. He led a nationwide survey of butterfly distribution and has written several books on the subject, most recently the major work "Danish Butterflies - Nature's Poetry on Wings", which won Weekendavisen's Literature Prize in 2025 and is considered the most comprehensive guide to the topic.

The lecture alternates between beautiful photographs and stories about butterfly biology, their natural role, and place in cultural history. Stoltze continues to work actively in the field and advises on how gardens and landscapes can be designed to be more butterfly and insect-friendly.

Tickets cost 120 kr. (regular price) or 100 kr. for members of the Library Club or the Garden Society. The event takes place in the Culture Hall and is a collaboration between Kalundborg Libraries and the Garden Society's local branch in Kalundborg.

Plant and Seed Exchange Market - Saturday, September 19, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Kalundborg Museum

In connection with the lecture, the Garden Society holds a plant and seed exchange market at Kalundborg Museum. Self-grown plants, cuttings, seedlings, seeds and bulbs can be given, exchanged or sold - butterfly and insect-friendly varieties are especially welcome. Feel free to arrive half an hour early with your own table for the plants; the Garden Society Kalundborg board is present and provides guidance. Admission is free.
