Hamlet

About

Hamlet is Shakespeare's tragedy from around 1600, following the Danish prince who seeks revenge on the uncle who murdered his father and married his mother. It ranks among the most performed and quoted plays in world literature, with the soliloquy "To be, or not to be" known across cultures. Kronborg Castle in Helsingør - the real-world inspiration for Elsinore - has staged the play every year since 1937, drawing stars such as Laurence Olivier, Kenneth Branagh and Jude Law to its courtyard. Today, HamletScenen, the local repertory theatre, runs a year-round programme of Shakespeare-rooted productions and new writing.
